January 9th
Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple inc, announces the iPhone, the company's first ever cell phone. It is the first phone to bring together features form an MP3 player, a digital camera, smart phones, and touch screen pads.
October 17th
The Dalai Lama receives the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal for his work with peace and civil rights in China. He was exiled from China because he was seen as a threat.
December 20th
Queen Elizabeth II turned 81 in April, but once she reached December 20th, she had officially out-reigned Queen Victoria. She became the oldest monarch of the UK on this day.
