On this day, Dolly, a domestic sheep, became the first mammal to be cloned. She was cloned from an udder cell retrieved from a Finn Dorset white sheep. What was fascinating about Dolly was that she was able to reproduce just like any other sheep. Unfortunately, her life was cut short when she died six years later. She suffered from arthritis and from pulmonary adenomatosis, which is a lung tumor common among domestic sheep.

Europeans come to an agreement that the official European currency will be the Euro. The Euro replaced previous currencies such as the Austrian Schilling, the Belgian, French, and Luxembourgish Franc, the Dutch Guilder, the Greek Drachma, the Portuguese Escudo, and the Slovenian Tolar. At the time, I didn' have much of a care for money, but I still remember that in Italy, where I was living at the time, they had the Lira. I still find it to be a confusing currency, and I was glad to hear that they were switching to the Euro when they did.
